Breeding planner

Enter the animals you have and the genotype you need. The planner ranks crosses with exact Mendelian odds, the litters and pairs to set up, and the dates.

It runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent or stored.

The form opens with an example: two Cre/+ males and six Pten fl/fl females, aiming for 12 Cre/+;fl/fl males within 40 weeks. Change any of it.

1. Loci

Up to 3. The wild-type allele is +.

2. Animals you have

Adults ready to breed, up to 6 rows. Each row is a group of animals with the same sex and genotype.

3. The animals you need
Cre genotypes that count (leave empty for any)
Pten genotypes that count (leave empty for any)
4. Species and litter size

Leave blank for 7 (default, C57BL/6J, Silver 1995).

Plan with your own animals in ConductColony

In the app the planner reads your colony: each animal's genotype and age, inbreeding from recorded parents, your litter history, cages and protocols.

How the numbers are worked out

Each locus is inherited on its own unless you give loci the same linkage group. X-linked loci follow the X: sons take their mother's. Carriers of a transgene count as one copy, because most assays show only present or absent.

Litter size, weaning age, breeding age, the share of pairs that produce litters and pre-weaning loss come from cited sources (JAX, Silver 1995, McGill 2020, Morello et al. 2020). A plan is sized to reach your count with a probability of at least 80%.
