ConductColony exists because we've seen too many labs lose breeding data to graduation, store critical colony records in someone's personal Excel file, and spend days preparing for IACUC reviews that should take minutes.
Our story
ConductColony is built by ConductScience, a scientific equipment and software company that has served research labs worldwide since 2016. We started as a supplier of behavioral testing equipment — mazes, activity monitors, and operant conditioning chambers — and grew to understand the daily workflow of animal research from the inside.
One pattern appeared across nearly every lab we worked with: colony management was a mess. Labs were tracking hundreds of animals in Excel spreadsheets. Breeding records were scattered across shared drives. When JCMS was discontinued in 2015, thousands of labs were left without a modern alternative that didn't cost thousands per year.
We built ConductColony to solve this. A modern, cloud-based colony management system that any lab can start using in minutes, with a free tier that requires no budget approval and no IT department.

What we build
ConductColony is designed around the actual workflow of managing a rodent colony:
- Animals, cages, and strains — track every animal from birth to endpoint with structured records and cage assignments.
- Breeding and genotyping — manage breeding pairs, track litters, record genotype results, and visualize pedigree trees across three generations.
- IACUC compliance — protocol tracking with expiry alerts, census reports, and audit trails for regulatory reviews.
- Smart import — AI-powered CSV/Excel import that recognizes column names, normalizes data formats, and creates strains, cages, and animals in a single transaction.
- QR cage cards — print scannable cage cards that link directly to cage and animal records from any mobile device.
